It also sports various clothing stores, although some residents prefer to take the 40min drive to nearby Worcester for larger shopping excursions.

The town is relatively safe, and many residents enjoy staying active by walking or jogging in the tree-lined streets. Cycling, hiking, golfing and fishing are also popular pastimes. The Ceres Golf Club is a highlight, sporting a design by Danie Obermeyer.

The fruit orchards and fields surrounding the community are attractions for Ceres residents and tourists alike. The Ceres Tourism Bureau highlights the zip sliding, abseiling, and ice climbing activities of Matroosberg as well as the Tankwa Trek mountain bike race and Tankwa Camino that attract out-of-towners to this location. Cherry-picking is also especially popular in these parts.

Discover Prince Alfred Hamlet

Just north of Ceres lies an even smaller community called Prince Alfred Hamlet. It covers an area of less than 9km2, and according to the last census, it had just 1 500 households that call this quaint little place their home.

This tiny town may be nothing more than a village, but it offers several properties at very affordable prices, making it an excellent fit for buyers looking for value-for-money homes. According to Property24, most properties here were sold for less than R1.5 million in the last decade.

It's also becoming a more popular choice for families because schools are nearby, including Laerskool FD Conradie and St. Mark's Primary School.

The town has a few stores, a library and the state-run Prince Alfred Hamlet Clinic, but many residents prefer to run their errands in Ceres, which is only 20mins away.
